In this blog post I am going to explain in detail about PowerApps Portal checker. If you have worked in prior versions of ADX Portals and then Dynamics 365 Portals find it easy to understand the portal checker. However in my experience, I find the newbies to portals quite fascinated by this feature. And this blog is dedicated to all of them who are just starting with the PowerApps portals.
So what is this PowerApps Portal checker all about? Strictly speaking, it’s a self service diagnostic tool for Portal administrators to find issues in the portal. That’s good stuff. Now the next question – What issues are we talking about?
When we run portal checker, it identifies various configuration parameters and then it provides some suggestions to fix them. So let’s see the PowerApps portal checker in action.
To run PowerApps portal checker, we need to navigate to the Power Portal admin center. To navigate to Power Portal Admin center, navigate to PowerApps maker portal and then select the portal. From the menu, click on Settings
Click on “Administration” in the pop out window
So now that you are in Power Portal Admin center, select “Run Portal Checker” on the left hand navigation. Then click on “Run Portal Checker” button.
And gosh! I am lucky. All my analysis are in green. Can’t expect too many errors in Vanilla Portal I guess.

As you can see in the above screenshot, Diagnostic results have three columns.
- Issue – A description of the issue faced by the customer. For example – Issues related to portal loading or issues related to server side cache invalidation etc.
- Category – Category of the issues like “Performance” issue or “Configuration” issue or “Portal start up” issue.
- Result – Displays the status of the issue, whether success (Pass), error or warning
To view details about an issue, you can actually expand the issue column.
If you are facing some issues, you can fix them as per suggestions here and then refresh the results using “Refresh results” button.
Before I end the blog, few things to consider
- Portal checker may no run if IP address restriction is enabled for the portal.
- Portal checker does not report runtime issues that may occur when you run portal page functionality.
