The introduction of PowerApps portals have been nothing less than revolutionary from the customer landscape. Common Data Service has been introduced sometime back. However when it came to portal capability, CDS customers were left high and dry. Well, no more. PowerApps Portals have made it a level playing field for CDS Customers and Dynamics 365 Customers.
Following on the footsteps of Microsoft’s vision for a Unified platform to manage all admin tasks, the portal management has also been incorporated on the same platform. The Power Platform admin center helps you manage both capacity-based and add-on portals.
Power platform admin center allow you to manage all portals in your tenant or portals within a specific environment.
Let’s explore the first option – Manage all portals for a tenant
In the Power Platform Admin Center, select Portals user ‘Resources’ from left hand menu.
You will be taken to the below screen which shows all the portals within your tenant. Please note that these are the portals across your tenant and not specific to an environment
To manage a portal, click on the Ellipsis and then click on Manage to open portal configuration. We will discuss about Power Portal Admin center in a later blog.
So far we have learnt how to view and manage all portals inside a tenant. The Power Platform Admin center allows you to manage both the capacity based and add-on portals. Isn’t it great to know?
So far so good. But what if we want to Manage portals within an environment. To do that, follow the below steps.
- Login to Power platform admin center.
- Click on Environments in the left pane
- From the list of environment, click on the environment to open the environment settings.
- In your environment settings, under the Resources section, you have the portals link
- Once we click on the portals link, we will land on the list of portals configured for the environment. You can select any portal and then click on Manage to navigate to the portal management screen.
And that’s it. I have shown couple of ways to manage the portals for your tenant or to manage portals specific to your CDS instances.
Before I say good bye here, a little more information which may be beneficial for you. When you manage your portals from the Power Platform Admin center, you will notice a Status column right after Portal name column. Check for the screenshot below.
As you can see in the above screenshot, the portal status is set to “Suspended”. There are in-fact three possible values of portal status.
- Configured – The portal is active and is provisioned for an environment
- Suspended – The portal is suspended because the trial period is over. Note that a trial portal will be deleted in seven days if not converted to Production
- Not Configured – The portal is ready to be configured to an environment. The status will change to configured once the portal is provisioned.
Hope this helps!
