Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. In today’s blog I will discuss on how to create a Hyperlink column in SharePoint to store more than 255 characters.
SharePoint list has a hyperlink column and more often than not it serves your purpose.

But the problem arise when the URL is more than 255 characters.

Quite evident we cannot use the Hyperlink column. But how to achieve the same?
To accomplish this we are going to use a multi-line text field. Let’s explore how we can do this.
The first thing we do is to enable the ‘Enhanced Rich Text’ option for multi line text field. Then create the column.

The next trick is while entering the URL value in the field. Click on the Edit button on far right.

In the new window that opens, use the ‘Add or Edit hyperlink’ option.

In the pop out window, enter the URL and the alternate text. And then save the record.

When you now view the list row, you could see the data in URL format just like you would want with your usual hyperlink column.
