Assign a user rights to create application in Azure active directory.

Sometime back I wrote a blog on how to resolve the error “You don’t have required permissions to create Azure Active Directory applications” while configuring Power Apps portal.

In that blog I explained that to get rid of the error, you need to make sure that the account used to configure a portal is having the rights to create an application in Azure AD. But the question is – what is that specific right the user should have in Azure so that they can create application in Azure AD?

It’s actually pretty easy and it’s an azure role. Navigate to Azure Portal and then click on Azure Active directory.

Select the user from the list. For example – I want to modify the roles for the user – Chris Green.

User permission to create an application in Azure

Once the user screen open, click on Assigned Roles -> Add Assignments.

User permission to create an application in Azure

From the roles list, select the appropriate role. You need to select Application Developer at-least to make sure the user have the authorization to create the app in Azure AD,

User permission to create an application in Azure

Well, that’s it. The user have now permission to create APPs in Azure AD.

Hope this helped!
