Error while creating an Application User in Dynamics 365/ Model driven apps

These are days of integration. And when it comes to Power platform, you have plenty of options to do the same. And one of the most common ways to interact with data of DataVerse (Common Data Service) is through the method of registering an app in azure active director and provide necessary permissions to the APP to access the common data service.

If you are new to the process, you can follow the blog link here. One of the step here is to create an Application User in Dynamics 365/ DataVerse. And this is the step when one of my customer reported having issue while creating the application user.

Honestly I was thinking they must have done something wrong but when I tried myself I got the same error. It was intermittent and in some environment it was throwing an error and in some it was working fine. Screenshot of error below.

I don’t have an exact solution here. But I found a way to get this working. The error is happening if you go through Power Platform Admin center -> Users -> Manage users in Dynamics 365 option. Screenshot below.

If you are facing an error through this path, don’t worry. You can use an alternate route and I have seen it always works without fail.

From your maker portal, click on ‘Advanced Settings‘. It will open you classic Settings area.

Then Navigate to Settings -> Security -> Users and change the view to Application Users.

Click ‘+’ to create new Application User. And enter your application ID of your Azure Active Directory App. Everything should be working fine now.

Not sure what’s the exact error but seems more of like an issue with Unified interface.
